How do I differentiate between a book club edition and a first edition?

At a glance: The first edition book will be approximately 9 1/2 inches tall and 6 inches wide. The book club edition will be approximately 8 1/2 inches tall and 6 inches wide. As with any rule, however, there are always exceptions. Some of the cheaper publishing houses are releasing first editions in the shorter format. Yes, a little annoying.
The dust jackets are generally the same on the outside. However, the inside flap of the dust jacket will be different. A first edition will have the publisher's price printed on the inside flap. A book club edition will not.
